The National Post's Sarah Althaus writes that DaimlerChrysler's third-quarter net income advanced 11 per cent to $1.6-billion (U.S.). Sales rose 15 per cent to $38.56-billion. DaimlerChrysler quarterly earnings rose to $1.61 a share compared with $1.45 last year. Analysts surveyed expected $1.40 a share. Results were adjusted for the effects of the sale of its 32 per-cent stake in Debitel, a $149-million charge reflecting lump-sum retiree payments for the 1999 contract with the United Auto Workers and losses due to Hurricane Floyd.
