Softbank, Ingram Miro to end PC tie-up--report

TOKYO, Oct 12 (Reuters) - Japan's Softbank Corp and Ingram Micro Inc (NYSE:IM - news) of the United States are to end a tie-up on selling low-priced non-brand personal computers in Japan, a business daily reported.

A spokesman for Softbank was not immediately available to comment on the report in Monday's Nihon Keizai Shimbun.

The report said the firms decided on the move as a series of introductions of inexpensive models in Japan by brand-name makers such as Dell Computer Corp (NasdaqNM:DELL - news) and International Business Machines Corp (NYSE:IBM - news) have taken away their price competitiveness.

Softbank had been taking orders from corporate customers for Ingram's non-brand personal computers since February.

Softbank's shares ended Tuesday's morning session at 43,600 yen, down 450 yen or 1.02 percent from Friday.

Capturing 50% of the market sure is a bold statement. For those of you who followed the stock in the early days, has DELL always come through with their predictions? Also, has DELL's stock price ever stalled this long before?
