He had a no refund policy and it was all mail order. The glory of the whole thing was that he'd replace for just the shipping and handling charge and he was making a ton on the shipping and handling charges.

This was back in the 50s and 60s and he was shut down on that end of the business. I can't recall the exact figures but he'd charge say $1.95 S&H. It cost him say $.25 to send a replacement. So the more that people sent for a replacement dead stick the more money he made.
