Eric and Sommers, I think you are missing the main reason CDMA will prevail--cost to the telco. It costs less to operate a cdma network of equal capacity than either gsm or tdma. When and if a cdma operator can establish its network in a country, they operate with a huge advantage. I think of it as the camel in the tent syndrome (Once you let its nose in. . . .).

Of course the other issues (more reliable "soft" handoff, better call quality and path to faster data rates) are relevant. But, they're not why cdma will win.
