Eric, I am saddened to find I have completely been misinformed about EDGE, TDMA, etc. Not to mention so far off base. Should I bring this to the attention of someone like Frank A. Coluccio and beg him for help? Asking if they know anything about CDMA vs. TDMA/GSM. Surely they use BrowseMaster and don?t bother with peons like me...

Can you tell me what EDGE stands for, etc? So you believe CDMA is behind GSM/TDMA?s current (and future) technology?

I posted #7712:

<<TDMA (upgraded by GUTS - generic UDP teleservices) and EDGE (enhanced data rates for global evolution - basically hi-speed internet telephony for TDMA and GSM) will be capable of faster data speeds...
...I also understand it is relatively inexpensive to upgrade from GSM to EDGE...
However, according to Nortel the TDMA carriers will be required to upgrade to handle
the new channels. This upgrade and conversion from GSM to EDGE will take atleast 24
months...>>

then # 7758

<<CDMA has the clear advantage TODAY in currently deployed digital networks serving both voice and data, without facing an upgrade>>

then # 7838

<< EDGE is touting data rates up to 384 Kbps, but remember
that's ATLEAST 3 years away from now. CDMA2000 plans to rollout 153 Kbps in
trials beginning next year....
CDMA 2.5 will clearly hit Main Street well before the "new" GSM or
TDMA systems. And what's more, GSM and TDMA will have to SACRIFICE voice
capacity in order to add data....
The TDMA and GSM carriers are just trying to keep up with CDMA.
CDMA2000 (157 Kbps and double the voice channels per site) is what's forcing Mr.
Armstrong to move to EDGE - while at the same time risking pissing off his voice
customers as the his cell site availability decreases....
...The tide is rising around TDMA and GSM...>>

Now a confirmed dumb blonde: I recently sold all of my T and bought Gemstar.
