Only a very presumptious sort would pray directly to God, or expect God to guide him directly. I would suggest an intermediary for your own (spiritual) well being.

This is an experience I have had before, not always, but definitely has happened to me. I sometimes think it's Gods way of making sure I don't think that I've saved the person I'm witnessing to, reminds me to give the glory to God. :-)
