That sounds about right, although,in re SJC, you underestimate the coverage, which shows the transition to Harvey through to Darwin, or to Newton through to Schroedinger. The main problem is not being "reactionary", but lack of rigor, a very "liberal arts" approach to laboratory science. On the other hand, I have had friends get graduate degrees in physics after St. John's with only about a year of supplementary undergraduate work, and many Johnnies become doctors....
