Qualcomm chief sees strong growth

Irwin Jacobs, chairman and CEO of Qualcomm Inc., who spoke before the CMGI chief, said he thinks
wireless subscriber growth will continue to exceed most expectations, probably reaching 1 billion subscribers
before 2003.

"As equipment gets better and the cost of using the phone has come down it has taken off. The whole issue
of wireless is allowing the price of use to continue to come down," Jacobs said.

A major driver will also be the use of wireless devices for Internet access and computing, he said. "The
telephone is going to be your computer," Qualcomm's (QCOM: news, msgs) chairman and CEO said.

Microsoft Demos Cellular CE Device
Microsoft Corp. today showed a prototype cellular Windows CE device,
which physically resembles a phone and which it hopes will go into trial
with operators next year. The GSM PDA, which has e-mail, calendaring,
a contact database and a microbrowser, seems to preclude the need for
WAP. Microsoft did not announce any support from handset
manufacturers, such as Nokia and Ericsson, or GSM operators for its new
product.
