Ant,

Did I tell you that on Saturday night when I was out gallivanting around town, instead of going to the movies as I thought I might, I went to Barnes and Noble. Oh, I had such a wonderful time. It has been so long since I had time to myself to do such unimportant things.

Guess what book I bought??? Making the decision was tough, so many that I thought I might like to read.

Even the little pocket ones on "random acts of kindness were cute!!"

Here's a Washington Post review of something playing in D.C. you might be interested in . . . .

A COUPLE OF BLAGUARDS -- (At Ford's Theatre through Oct. 31)

Well, it's a real Irish evening with Frank and Malachy McCourt, the former played by Mickey Kelly and the latter by himself alone. That is to say, there's lots of good talk, a bit of song, some sentimentality, some acerbity and an unholy amount of charm. The evening is in two parts -- the first being the McCourt brothers' memories of their penurious Limerick childhood, the second an account of their experiences as young men who immigrated to New York in the 1950s. The second half is more interesting because, as presented here, it's more gritty. They tell the usual Irish boyhood stories, recounting improbable details with an admirably innocent deadpan. Consequently, each has something of the Professional Irishman about him -- there's much in this evening that's entertaining, but nothing that's unexpected.

I'm looking forward to begin reading it on Friday. That show in DC sounds interesting. I'm stepping out for a bit to go listen to some speakers. Wait 'til the wife hears about the latest stereo upgrade. <g>
