please allow Q to resume its path to 300? In due time uncle, in due time: The telephone is going to be your computer - Dr. Irwin Jacobs CMGI looks to expand in Europe Meanwhile, David Wetherell, chairman, president and CEO of CMGI, said he wants to buy a company in Europe to introduce CMGI products to the region. "We need feet on the street here, " he said, speaking earlier at the Monte Carlo conference. Wetherell aims to sign up "a number" of venture partners in different geographic locations throughout Europe. Separately, he said the Internet venture capital business is looking a little less like the wild west than it used to. "Some other people have caught on to this thing. But we continue to see a lot of good opportunities," Wetherell said. Currently CMGI (CMGI: news, msgs) has about $3.5 billion in holdings, up sharply from $194 million 15 months ago. Wetherell said this number should grow "quite dramatically" over the next 12 months, possibly reaching $10 billion to $20 billion by 31 July 2000. On the subject of whether internet stocks are overvalued, Wetherell said: "Some won't make it. Other's will be much bigger than they are today, these are the GM's of the future." Qualcomm chief sees strong growth Irwin Jacobs, chairman and CEO of Qualcomm Inc., who spoke before the CMGI chief, said he thinks wireless subscriber growth will continue to exceed most expectations, probably reaching 1 billion subscribers before 2003. "As equipment gets better and the cost of using the phone has come down it has taken off. The whole issue of wireless is allowing the price of use to continue to come down," Jacobs said. A major driver will also be the use of wireless devices for Internet access and computing, he said. "The telephone is going to be your computer," Qualcomm's (QCOM: news, msgs) chairman and CEO said. __________ Best regards Paul
