Jan, btw, here are some suggestions for your trip:

I don't know Waikiki too well, but loved the dinner buffet at the Banyan Terrace at the historic, impeccably-restored Moana, the oldest and (imo) classiest hotel on the beach. The food was just fine and the atmosphere magical. Also, you can't go wrong with 'A Pacific Cafe' for gourmet Pacific Rim food. We loved 'Roys' on the Big Island in '97, liked 'Roys' on Kauai in '98, but were disappointed in 'Roys' on Maui in '99. Don't know if the trend is meaningful or bad luck, but as 'Roys' in Honolulu is the signature restaurant, it's probably worth checking out, again for Pacific Rim cuisine.
