Holding ORCL, SUNW, DELL, CS, GLBX, COMS as my main holdings - I have bee trying to hold "core positions" for 12 months - never get there! Want to have a big gainer some day and pay only 20% in fed taxes - would be sweet, I think having some core long terms combined with short term positions plays works best - at least foe me,...picked up ORCL 2 weeks ago on that big drop at 40 3/8 - holding tight, DELL I picked up at 34, GLBX at 33 3/4, COMS since 22, SUNW way back at 58, and not selling any on the near term horizon...it always seems my longer term holds do most of the work in my portfolio - and then I daytrade here and there to get "gambling" out of my system...

Wow, I leave for two hours and the market royally tanks! But what a great discussion you guys had. It's affirming to hear so many (Jake, Jas, Neil, AU, etc.) spouting a philosophy similar to mine. I have such a mix of stocks right now (almost 40) from blue chips, to take over plays, to tech stocks and several ipos I've never sold. And guess how I ended for the day - would you believe EVEN? I still can't believe that. Neil, I did buy MAT when it was "on sale" last week. James, I will hold ORCL. I hate to pay that 40% tax rate. That's one reason I prefer stock in exchange for stock in a take over. It gives control over the tax man!!! Of course, I am not complaining about XYLN and FORE. They helped my offset some of my mistakes!!!
