Hello There :)

Well, I've read over your response and chuckled for a few minutes. I see that my close pal Toy has taken a stab at explain our thoughts here but I would like to present you with a short list of "products" MSFT "gives away for free" or rather is "seeding the market":

1) MS Internet Explorer
2) Internet Information Server (webserver), FTP Server.
3) Email Client software (Outlook/Outlook Express)
4) MSN *(HotMail but although they bought this one)
5) MS Media Player
6) MS NetMeeting
7) MS Draw + MS Image Composer

Here's a list of their major competitors in each instance:

1) Netscape/AOL + Opera
2) Apache + Netscape/AOL
3) Pegasus, Netscape/AOL, GroupWise (Novell), Lotus Notes (IBM).
4) AOL, Mindspring, UUnet, Prodigy, CompuServe2000, AT&T WorldNet....
5) RealNetworks (Real), QuickTime Video (Apple).
6) Pow-Wow (Tribal)
7) Any graphics program (Paint Shop Pro)

This list could be much better if I had some time. I could also spend some time explaining all the small "integrations" of utilities into their OS in the name of advancement which cut competitors off at the knees :)

Novell needs to make NDS the common name in directory services. They can achieve this in 2 basic ways:
1) Give it away
2) Spend a Billion Dollars to let every living soul on Earth hear/see and use NDS until it's a household name.

Either way, there's no golden path of riches here - just alot of work :) The pot at the end of this rainbow is in the developers and the apps they create. This creates a demand for NDS.

I think Perry said it more eloquently. I just want to shake up things with this list.
