Does anybody know how much faster a 500 Mhz 512k cache xeon chip is than a similar Pentium III for server side database programs on Windows NT or Linux? I am considering building a server with Xeons, but remain daunted by their rather non-commodity style pricing. Does the price/performance ratio increase or decrease as I add more memory to the onboard cache.
