Def, people are going to find out that the index funds' mindless buying will turn into mindless selling during a bear market. i'm waiting for global stock markets to finish their corrective phase and plan to go long Japan thereafter. that's the place to make money in the medium term imo.

I think that your point about owning European and Pacific Rim index funds in addition to the US one is a excellent point, well made and taken.

As for the distribution with the S&P, the idea is to invest in the US economy as a whole. What percentage of the US economy is reflected by these top 10? Could it be close to 23%?
