the memory load sensor i spoke of reports usage in %, but when it reaches 50% load all physical mem has been committed. further mem commitment requires swapping data between RAM and virtual memory.

like right now, the load sensor says i am at 90%. so i be swapped out.

maybe the systemworks utility suite would be good for you. there are other ways to see exactly which programs are using what. i need to check into that a bit more though.

:)

Memory stuff ...

Perhaps you could try System Tools / Monitor. This defaults to Kernel usage, but you could add unused physical memory to the values monitored by clicking Edit / Add Item / Memory Manager / Unused Physical Memory. You'll choose to monitor your unused memory with a graph, bar chart, or numbers. You can watch your unused memory diminish as you open each program. Determining how much memory each application uses should become a trivial exercise. You may even get a feel for which program combinations consume resources efficiently or wastefully. (Some programs may share resources.)

This monitoring tool, included with Windows 98, can assist users in determining where their efforts will afford them the greatest reward in system performance. Like any tool, the skill of the person using it strongly influences the results.

Hope this helps, PW.
