Why not read the book I suggested - if you have not, it suggests that you have not taken much interest in the topic; it is a standard source - and see what you think? I've lived in the Philippines for most of the last 20 years, I speak 3 Philippine dialects, I was physically present at many of the events we're discussing, and I have devoted considerable study to the country and the period. I consider myself reasonably well qualified to voice an opinion. Ikaw, ano talaga ang alam mo sa Pilipinas? Mukhang marami, sa galing ng salita mo... sabihin mo sana. There is much in the "first glance" historical record that does not accord with what I saw personally and with the reports of those who have actually studied the period. When that happens, I don't feel much guilt about adopting interpretations that some may consider novel. Have you read James Hamilton-Patterson's book on the Marcoses? I can't say I agree on all counts, but interesting, and worth reading. He's an intelligent guy who knows the country, which is more than can be said for a lot of those writing on the subject. Do you feel that the rule of law prevailed under Marcos? Do you remember Reagan's reaction to the verdict in the Galman trial? What did you think of it then; what do you think of it now? Which facts are you interpreting, and what is your interpretation? I apologize for failing to bow and scrape before your qualifications, and I am sorry that you interpret this egalitarianism as a patronizing response. I felt that your post attributed opinions to me that I did not express and spent unnecessary energy deflating arguments that I did not make. I look forward to reading something better next time around.
