It appears from the price reaction that the disappointment from Intel overshadowed the optimistic report from Seagate. Here are some of the optimistic views:
*Y2K hasn't been visible yet but in a few months it should turn positive as companies that delayed orders, catch up.
*In 3 to 5 years all TV's in most countries will have a storage unit on, in or next to it. Seagate's plans are confidential as to not tip off competitors.
*Seagate is now producing 25% more drives with 27% fewer people. Efficiencies will continue.
*Tax liabilities make it difficult to return the value of other company ownership to stockholders. Seagate is reviewing methods to return the value over the longer term. (approx. $26/share)

Overall, demand is strong in all areas and the December quarter is following the usual patterns (strong).

Mark M.
