Swap file size stuff ...

To set the size of the swap file, right click My Computer and select properties. Click Performance tab and click Virtual memory button. In the window that appears, choose the ability to set your own values and enter your preference in the appropriate box.

If you disable VM, your programs will run in physical memory and you'll probably discover what fits and what doesn't. I haven't tried this, so I don't know what will happen. I have disabled VM at times for other reasons and experienced no ill effects as I carried on my usual work. (It's my unusual work I'm not sure about.)

If I was to recommend choosing your own MV settings, I'd lean toward allocating a larger minimum swap file if you have the disk space to spare. Windows expands and contracts .SWP file as needs vary. By setting this file to a huge size, and defragging your disk, you'd be sure that no matter what you're doing, your .SWP file would be continuous and efficient. I think 100meg minimum and no maximum would work OK. Your needs may differ. You may want to experiment and post the results.

Hope this helps, PW.
