I agree with Dan. I think intc was pushing real hard to eke out $.55 per share Q2 and Q3. And I suspect line items were tweaked real hard to make it happen. There was the question of the $400 mil that was moved from Other to the Architecture Group between Q2 and Q3. Twice the CFO was asked about this move and he kept trying to blow it off as complicated accounting that would not be understood by those present. I don't know what that was about.

In any case I think with the Athlon ramping higher in Q4; intc's discounting will continue and margins will not go back up. I think intc is pressed and the lack of comments re competition was telling. And for what I suspect is the first time, I think some of the analysts are getting it.

I find the current scenario very interesting.

The Athlon effect that you had mentioned - I expect that it is just now really getting started and it will reduce Intel's profits by $500 to $700 million next quarter.
