Articwarrior; "missed the boat" - by getting off margin ?

Well first of all; lets get you to disclose your margin level and holdings...even if that's giving you an open door to a BigBullesque Monday Morning QB play (VBG)...

hmmmmm;"missing the boat" ? not really.

Artic; once again - I sell into these spikes - ALL OF THEM - every single time; I buy with leverage into the blow offs. Not being arrogant (okay, not being real obnoxiously arrogant anyway...) this has worked very well for me... I am a seller all the way into OSX 85-90 here - bank on that (VBG) !

Some people never get it (VBG) ?...they chase the run ups, fail to take profits only to watch them totally disappear into blowoffs like we just saw; then get caught without cash, or margin leverage to buy the bottoms, or to average down; on the blow offs. I like to use margin as a quick hit & run tactic. Periodically there are sweet spots to let the portfolio run on margin... let it air itself out. But, given all the negative factors here ? - not smart. Buying the blow off, or individual stories near year end - especially when we see what the Nat Gas story & Winter deamand will be; will potentially be a great hold & run period. Remember many, many analysts & traders are on record here for saying sell the OSX from 85-90. Ala~ Dain Rauscher's Institutional call... heed that...

SELL THE RALLY's - BUY THE TOTAL CAPITULATION BLOW OFFS !

pleeeeeeeeeeeze; does anyone else here "get it" ?

Artic; had GLBL at nearly 40% of my entire portfolio - margined heavy at $ 6 7/16ths - $6 5/8ths. Sold all the margined GLBL + trimmed a bit portfoliowise. That was a 23% bounce from the bottom in days/ a 35%+ return on my capital ! NEVER - will I fail to take profits - which means "SELLING" on those types of pops...never.

The other main reason I will be selling strongly into todays rally; is that the rotation plays are better than they have EVER been in the entire cycle here.... !

I bought CRK at sub $3 1/2 !, RRC $3 7/8ths, MHR $3, MLRC under $7; dabbled in a little EVER - goes in the "fahhh get about it" drawer etc...

Artic; I love having all the options after getting a couple of nice little bounce plays leveraged via margin here. I am cautioned by the overall market weakness & potential Black October/Y2K blow off etc... along with the now "Guru" E-Wave analysis from ole' Gary.

So if you want to color me "cautious" - fine. I just rang the hell out of the register here... remember the post I lined earlier - was out at OSX 90 within "hours" of the top the last time; looked pretty much like the bottom here that I margined into again.... I'll stick with what works for me... I'd rather margin into bottoms's and sell big bounce pops than to hold on margin in times of transition - given the Crude correction, the overal market weakness, fiscal year end for funds, tax loss selling, Black October-Y2k etc.

Pigs get fat - but, Hogs get slaughtered....

Greed is good; but not ringing that register into this run; given all the rotation plays; and that is the "KEY" to feeling good about selling/taking profits here by the way; since there is no shortage of rotation plays... I like having all the options here...

Still sitting longterm on cheap GLBL MDR PGO ESV OEI PXD UPR as core holds and loving ringing the register all the way up...

Got MHR ?

Ohhhhh Artic..... re: "bailing out of margin" - ahhh hemmmm;

In case you didn't notice... (VBG).

Not a bad day to bail... GLBL was my largest holding & my largest profit taker...hit serious resistance at $8, wasn't a bad day to sell GLBL, or ESV... or virtually anything for that matter - thank you...

Not a bad day to buy RDC either imo. GaryB - had to get "some" on 10% down day for RDC vs. a nice up day for the OSX. RDC's equity offer will be sopped up easily, paying bank debt is a good move. That was an over reaction just like the initial one to GLBL...

Earnings season just has to many potential land mines here for this to be smooth sailing; even off of those fantastic API #'s and crude's rebound.

Here's another "warning" of things to come from PGO - (maybe a catch in the $14's coming ?):

biz.yahoo.com

This is a time to be an individual stock trader/picker. ESV is one of my fav's - nearing $20 - outta here... at $15/16 - buying on margin... I still love GLBL - it just popped too fast; and there is no reason for the institutions to buy untill after earnings season. The way I see it - the Institutions bought the downdraft bottom here (as I did) and there is simply no reason to buy, or especially to chase anything here into earnings season. We've simply run out of buyers here... no real heavy sellers; but rather a lack of buyers... value is still here; but it is no longer that compelling given earnings.

We drift lower.

I am sitting for the big blowoffs from earnings reactions in individual stocks - I'll be a large buyer here on those moves. But, averaging in... in 1,2, 3 buys and not chasing 'tic's either. Like RDC - in $14 15/16ths - will sit for a full position at $13 7/8ths; & will margin in the $12's if seen. I allready see PGO getting set up for a blow up; love it... patience is the ticket here..

Thanks again GaryB for the caution's...

Still a great time to "re-buy" the small cap nat gas plays here.... they are back to pre-rally prices and will not be posting downside surprises, or bad news... quite the opposite. Actually the balanced plays of crude:gas; are my fav's - UPR OEI PXD...

We'll see what earnings brings. I don't plan on selling any of my core holds from the bottom of the blow off here; but will be buying very selectively... and we'll get some nice opportunities before earnings reporting is over.

Bond yields are now enticing compared to ytd returns for many indices... DOW correction of 15-20% from here is far from unrealistic... stay nimble; the Oilpatch initially goes down right along witht he entire market in a total blow off... remember last year ?

PS - Artic; still on full margin (VBG) ?

Margin use is just like poker:

... you gotta know when to hold, know when to fold; when to walk away and when to run ...
