Motorola and AOL Announce Plans to Develop Wireless Application for AOL Instant Messenger
GENEVA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 13, 1999--Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) and America Online, Inc. (NYSE: AOL) today announced plans to develop the AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) application to integrate into Motorola's smart wireless devices, including Motorola's latest, most innovative products -- the WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) enabled Timeport P1088 smart phone and the Timeport P930 two-way wireless communicator.
This new application can enable live "real time" communication between users of Motorola's wireless communications devices and AOL's community of 45 million instant-message users. A variety of Motorola's smart and connected products are being showcased at Geneva Telecom featuring a prototype wireless AIM application. AOL and Motorola have targeted early 2000 for delivery, pending agreement by the companies on final terms.
