Alcatel Launches Legal Action Against Orckit Communications Ltd.

Alcatel at Telecom 99 - Hall 4, Stand No. 210

GENEVA, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Alcatel (NYSE: ALA) today announced that
its US company, Alcatel USA, Inc. filed a lawsuit against Orckit
Communications Ltd. and Orckit Communications, Inc. in the United States
District Court for the Northern District of California. In the complaint,
Alcatel alleges that Orckit is infringing Alcatel's patent entitled "Method to
Synchronize Data and a Transmitter and a Receiver Realizing Said Method," one
of Alcatel's numerous patents relating to ADSL technology. Alcatel, a leader
and innovator in ADSL technology, has a significant patent portfolio in the
field, including a number of patents to be issued.
