Pooky, if you take today, there are still many holes in coverage. Most of the US is covered - just not by the same company and even less by the same cell format. Take Airtouch for example. (http://www.app.airtouch.com/zip/plsql/frames?p_url=/phones_service/coverage/natlcoverage_body.html)

At the scale of this presentation, you can bet the actual areas that are not covered are much larger than even this shotgun pictorial suggests.

Take PrimeCo in the Orlando area, same thing(http://www.primeco.com/map_Orlando.html)

As people use modern convenience more, they forget about it and just want it to work when and where they want. How much will they be willing to put up with for the pleasure? How big a phone, how big an antenna, how big a bill? Each person has his set of requirements.

The organizations that have the best feel for all these variables are the ones currently making money at it; the Service Providers who Globalstar has teamed up with. That is what keeps me in Globalstar at this point. The SP's have managed to make money at selling phone services. I say they will be able to make money for me selling Globalstar services.
