I believe animals do have a "soul" as in a life force given to them by God. Man, however, has a unique soul created in the image and likeness of God. Man was created to be a son of God and to have fellowship with God. Jesus demonstrated man's physical and spiritual connection to God. Jesus was genetically half God and also half man, but still fully God and fully man; a mystery beyond man's rational mind. His humanity did not change his divinity, nor did his divinty change his humanity. He left the fullness of his divinity to become what we are so that we could become what He is. All of fallen creation groans under the burden of sin.
