They can both be "funny" if you are familiar with the stereotypes which the joke pokes fun at but are never really appropriate. I don't happen to like lawyer jokes but I don't whine about it. In any event, the fact that someone makes a "sexist" or "racist" joke does not necessarily mean they are an idiot. JLA

Because the relations between the sexes has always been complex, and women have been held in high esteem and wielded significant influence, despite legal disabilities, for ages. Furthermore, even in the most "sexist" household, it is likely that there is a rough equality given the difficulty of maintaining a firm "upper hand" in an interpersonal relationship, unless the guy is a batterer. Therefore, the sensitivities are, or ought to be, a good deal less about "sexism". On the other hand, it has been less than 150 years since the termination of chattel slavery, and less than 50 since the legal end of de jure segregation. Lynching has died out, but only recently there was an incident of "dragging" a black man to his death. In other words, it is right, given our history, to be more sensitive. Even then, if one watches Saturday Night Live, for example, they even make successful sketches employing black stereotypes, as in "The Ladies Man", but that is partly because they are cautious about what will work and what will not.....

why are sexist jokes funny and racist jokes not funny

Sexist (regarding both sexes) jokes can be funny if told in the proper spirit. As can jokes that touch upon ethnicity. You have to tread lightly, of course. We should be able to laugh at ourselves. Jackie Mason is a master at pointing out the various ethnic quirks that make us human.

You know guys like you really crack me up...

Do you know when Rush wrote number 16???

Well I'll tell you.. It was right after the first Menendez brothers trial and they were interviewing the 8 women that were on the jury.. One of them actually said she was going to vote to aquit them because "They are such nice looking boys and haven't they suffered enough? They just lost their parents."

They just lost their parents!!!!! LOL!!! They shot them to death with a shotgun..

He is showing you "absurdity by being absurd.." He says it all the time..

But you just take what he says out of context and run with your idiotic stance..<ggg>
