Worswick,

It is with great respect that I tread on to this thread..and as I try to determine in my own mind if derivatives (and at this level) are good for the world or not?
...I understand that what we are witnessing over the past two/few decades is an evolution of the vehicles necessary to energize (via money) a global economy that even begins to cope with a burgeoning population. It had to move beyond the restrictions of the central bankers and world's few most powerful governments so as to exceed the reach of those with vested interest to keep all the gains "in house". With innovation and the use of ever more sophisticated computation to keep track of these derivative models we have moved into a new financial paradigm that by necessity exceeds the grasp of the old institutions.
Will it hold together?
..like any new process there will be glitches and set backs fed by lots of greed which seems to motivate us to do the right things for perhaps the wrong reasons....but never the less it seems to me to be moving on the right migration path..ie more liguidity to build a civilization for 6 billion people!

Questions which remain are how much of the transactions are skimmed of as transaction costs? How much of this liquidity is/was going to destructive human behavior..to support the Milosevich's of our World, etc?...
