In Virginia, they don't use the Bible when witnesses take the oath that they will tell the truth. And Christianity is very important in Virginia, I assure you.

Rambi, I'm sorry if my tone came across as sarcastic. I really meant it more as a joke, but after re-reading it, I can see what you mean.

As far as the discussion goes. Doesn't respect for the faith of others include acceptance? If someone wants to say a prayer to Allah I personally wouldn't care a bit! Why are people so sensitive to the hints of religion today, that we feel the need to remove any and all references to it?

Just because I like or admire the color red, doesn't mean I am alienating the lovers of the color blue. Wouldn't it also be alienating to christians or any other group to deny them the cultural exercises they have become accustomed to for generations. One being a simple 10 second prayer before a football game?

With regard to your example of Jesus, I agree but that really is a different issue. It's a reference to a specific religion, not simply a reference to a "God". To me, there is difference.

The word God or "Creator" has been a part of America since its inception. It is written in literally thousands of official documents describing laws across the land. I wonder if we looked at each states constitution how many references we would find? I also wonder how many opening ceremonies in state assemblies we would see a prayer conducted?

Why should we believe as a society founded on the principles of an allmighty "Creator" with an upper C. that we can completely shield our children from the word "God" in the public sector?

I yearn for an America where we understand that religion has and will continue to have an important role to play in our society. And that occasionally speaking the name "GOD" in a public forum is a part of that understanding.
