MKRS - interesting, but will it sell? MIKROS SYSTEMS CORPORATION TESTS PROPRIETARY AM RADIO TRANSMISSION TECHNOLOGY IN DENVER AREA WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 13, 1999 10:35 AM - PRNewswire PRINCETON, N.J., Oct 13, 1999 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Mikros Systems Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: MKRS) has been testing its proprietary AM Radio Transmission technology in the Denver, Colorado, area to demonstrate the effectiveness of Data Transmission on the AM radio in a mountainous environment. In these mobile tests, a receiver was mounted in a vehicle and received digital data packets transmitted from a local 50 kilowatt station. The tests were conducted over a five-day period and over 1,500 miles of travel, going as far south as Colorado Springs and as far northwest as Boulder. This testing of the newly developed technology has been conducted over a one-year period on two Philadelphia radio stations, and was moved to Denver for this Department of Transportation sponsored demonstration. An independent organization conducted tests for the Department of Transportation. The test results demonstrated simultaneous transmission of digital data and audio. The Company is presently working on improving the range performance of the system. No assurances can be given that the product will be successfully completed. This technology enables an AM radio station to simultaneously transmit an independent digital data stream on the AM carrier without substantially disturbing the analog audio signal. For example, traffic, weather and other information could be sent to moving vehicles over the AM radio band. The technology has been proven to be satisfactory for the initial intended applications but the product needs to be brought from prototype to a production configuration. There are no guarantees that the product will achieve market acceptance. The Company is presently seeking $3-5M financing in order to execute the business plan which provides for data services utilizing an AM radio network. There is no guarantee that the Company will be able to obtain this financing to continue the business. Mikros Systems Corporation is a high technology company developing wireless data transmission techniques and equipment for use on conventional AM radio stations for the purpose of transmitting digital data, without interference to the regular broadcast. The North American rights to the AM data broadcasting technology belongs to Mobile Broadcasting Corporation, which is jointly owned by Safeguard Scientifics of Wayne, PA and Mikros Systems Corporation.
