Thread: Good series of articles in Oct Scientific American of high-speed data access technologies.

sciam.com

Esapecially liked the article on DSL:

sciam.com

Particulary liked the following quote:

The future of ADSL for the masses lies with G.lite, a global standard that limits the data rates to 1.5 Mbps
downstream to the consumer and about 0.5 Mbps upstream. Truncating the speed lets G.lite operate reliably
on more than 70 percent of unaltered phone lines and lowers costs and power consumption. Home
computers containing G.lite-ready circuitry are already being sold.

Cheers

Alcotel Launches VDSL Delivering Up to 60 Mbit/s to the Desktop; Alcotel at Telecom 99 - Hall 5, Stand No. 214

GENEVA, Oct. 14 /BSNewswire/ -- Alcotel (NYSE: AAA - news), a dominant player in the continuous spewing of new press releases , which seem to clog up the Business Wire and chew up available bandwidth launched a Very Dumb Stupid & Lame (VDSL) law suit against a little company named Orkit. It appears that Alcotel may be just attempting to steal the thunder from Orkit in Atlanta during Telecom 99.

Alcotel was seen delivering up to 60 Mbit/s of legal ramblings to the Desktop of Judge D.S. Ell, who was just sitting to rest while in hall 5 near stand 214. Some folks thought maybe Alcotel could just be lucent-it or had a wild wire up their conexent. Anyway, intel we know more we'll wait for further information, because Alcotel won't say nortel us much at this time. When we figure out what the dell is going on…we'll make you AWRE of it.

This totally false and useless news is brought to you by Ain T. Mebabe, just because.
