As far as the reliability of Free Memory or Unused Physical Memory (it's labeled differently depending on the
version of Windows) , I've found it a useful indicator. It squares well with the aftermarket tools like the one
mentioned a few posts back (Winramturbo).

The unused physically memory measurement might square well with other measurements. But I am still suspicious of the results. The results I posted were obtained when running a modem program and one browser. 128 megabytes of physical memory minus 48 megabytes of unused physical memory means Windows 98 and 2 programs were using 80 megabytes. Does this mean Windows 98 is a big memory hog and a day trader who runs several programs needs more than 128 megabytes of memory to eliminate swapping?
