The Web is increasingly at the service of women. E-cooking born at Smau With Ariston Digital Internet comes to the kitchen

Milan, October 1, 1999 - According to experts, the number of women who use Internet in the year 2005 will exceed the
number of men who do so. A decisive contribution to the success of the Web among the gentle sex will come from
the entrance of digital technology in the kitchen. The computer, now a privileged instrument for access to Internet,
will be replaced by other simpler devices within the reach of everyone. Household appliances will be among the
possible alternatives for gaining access to the Web and will provide an important contribution in bringing women
closer to the new technology.

Already today we can see Ariston Digital appliances at Smau, which use WRAP (Web Ready Appliances
Protocol) digital technology and allow access to the network. The first Ariston Digital products will already be on
sale at Christmas.

One of the most interesting uses, presented in a worldwide preview at Smau (in the Ariston stand, within the
Microsoft stand, pavilion 22) is e-cooking. The system is easy and doesn't require particular computer skills: the
oven downloads recipes and cooking programs from Internet, with the help of the new accessory for the kitchen:
Leon@rdo.

Leon@rdo is a new household appliance that not only interacts with the oven but also with the entire Digital world.
Although its electronics are similar to those for a PC, Leon@rdo is instead a new household appliance with
evolved functions, like user interface, studied to make its use as simple as possible. It's a small touch screen,
light and portable, which contains a browser to navigate in Internet, with e-mail, an agenda, a notebook, calendar,
recipe book, shopping list and many other functions. In addition, Leon@rdo displays a series of useful information
on household appliances and gives practical and personalised advice to use them better, at the service of women
and couples.

Until yesterday Leon@rdo was called Home Smart Monitor and its new name was chosen by Internet navigators.
More than 1,000 proposals were sent to the www.merloni.com and www.aristonchannel.com sites. The best were
voted on by the people of the Web, who declared a crushing victory for Leon@rdo, which received hundreds of
votes. And it's in Internet that the most authoritative Italian sites which deal with women and their world have
mobilised to give room to this technological revolution: www.mondadori.com/donnamoderna,
www.spaziodonna.com and www.margherita.net will give wide space to these themes.

Among other household appliances, the washing machine recognises the material and the type of water, choosing
on its own the best program. And if too many appliances are turned on at the same time, with consumption
management blackouts will no longer occur. Thanks to tele-assistance you must no longer be worried about food
unfreezing or the loss of water because it will be the same appliance, with the tele-alarm, to call in real time the
Digital Assistance Center, capable of conducting an on-line tele-diagnostic service. All this is possible without
the necessity of a PC because the appliances come equipped with "Wrap inside" microprocessors that allow them
to communicate simply through the electricity network, without the need for new cables or other machines. In
addition, with the convenient Digital Adapter, non-digital appliances already present in the household can also
communicate among themselves.
