RE: MSFT and handset division.

You did not mention the additional fact that MSFT showed off a web-enabling phone in Geneva this week. If this came to pass, two things would be certain:

1) MSFT has no prior allegiances or commitments in the mobile phone area (same for someone like Compaq)
2) MSFT has tons of cash to throw at this business

Another thought - MSFT management must see the end of their "exclusive franchise" down the road and the need to get into another winning game. CDMA wireless may be that game.

Well it is interesting to speculate about.

I don't need a lot of consolation with the Q's stock price above $200. Things are going just fine. I think that Jacob's comments deserve some degree of thought and speculation.

I was intrigued by your comments about MSFT spinning off the consumer related business. If you could pass along any links to the story, I would greatly appreciate the info. I was under the impression that MSFT was making consumer products in Mexico, not Asia.

"we'd like you to really downplay this for us...
tell em that it should have a real dampening effect
on our earnings for a while..."

Rose: I would like you to respond to your comments that MSFT's entry into CDMA wireless handset business would be ridiculous. Based on the price tag that INTC paid for DSP, I would think that the sale of QCOM's handset business should be worth double what INTC paid for DSP. $3 billion would not be an unreasonable price tag at this point. Softie is one of the few with the cash to pay the price tag. Further, the introduction of Pegaso service in Mexico City is going to provide plenty of growth opportunity for Qualcomm's handset business which has a virtual monopoly on Pegaso's customers.
