A PC for a rupee

10/14/99

Compaq Computers (India) Private Limited has announced a tie-up with American Express which would allow consumers to buy its Presario range of home PCs for Re 1 in addition to the 2 per cent (of the computer price) service fee. American Express will provide 100 per cent financial support to consumers with its loans facility, said a company release. Under the scheme, for an entry level Presario priced at Rs 30,000, the consumer would have to pay Rs 600 (2 per cent service fee) plus Re 1 for taking the delivery. Thereafter, the consumer can choose a monthly instalment plan charging 12.4 per cent for loan taken for one year, 12.8 per cent for two years and 13.5 per cent for three years. This new scheme is available for all Compaq Presario PCs, from entry level Celeron to the powerful Pentium III, in retail outlets in Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Chennai and Bangalore, said the release.
