I believe it was people who bought year 2000 cars getting a notice they had a horseless carriage. Or so goes the joke.

According to a paragraph story in today's Arizona Republic, Maine motorists and lien holders registering 2000 model year cars got titles proclaiming their vehicle as a "horseless carriage." Supposedly this is for real. It sounds a little too cute to be real to me...

I guess that Maine must have different classifications for antique vehicles and the "before '09" (whenever) rule was triggered.
