...banking reform bill, again. Sometimes I feel like they trot this old war-horse issue out every 4 years: the pols throw WallStreet bankers a bone, milk them before elections.

Then it dies in committee (^_^)

You know, many of the great industrial empires seem to evolve into financial institutions. GE Capital Corp and GMAC financing, etc., come to mind.

You get big enough, yer business just becomes "making money with money".

I can't help but think that WMT will, too - perhaps into consumer credit/insurance as an entre, if allowed.

More interesting is a Tech giant like MSFT. Little need to "finance" software purchases... but, remember when they were kept out of the (INTU) financial services area, at least by way of acquisition ?

At one time, I thought that DELL might evolve into a financial area - not so sure about that, now. Difficult to move a Tech company towards finance, even if it is an "empire" in "the new economy". OTOH were I CEO of AOL, I'd be looking at / waiting for the collapse/consolidation of nascent internet brokers, internet banks, etc.

Anyhoo, whatsay you - Banking Reform Bill got a snowball's chance in hell this time around ?
