Fez, I ordered my new Latitude at the end of August and it didn't ship until the end of Sept. because of screen shortages. There is really a shortage of components and it affects all vendors and that's probably why Dell signed a deal with Samsung recently. We should be cheered by the very healthy demand.<g>

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. agreed to a five-year $8.5 billion computer screen supply deal with Dell Computer Corp (Nasdaq:DELL - news)., insuring Dell's access to scarce supplies amid a global shortage that has trimmed notebook sales, a Samsung official said Tuesday.

If demand was low, they would have the opposite problem - too much inventory. shipment delays at least mean there is someone to ship the product to - remember that the consumer business does not use the channel distribution that the commercial business uses.

Since CPQ has much less dependence on Taiwan than DELL, this does call into question what the results of DELL's 12 week study will turn up. But CPQ's consumer business uses more Taiwan components than the desktop business.
