I think that it has become abundantly clear that the Powers That Be will do and say ANYTHING to preserve the status quo and their agenda. ANYTHING.

The main reason is that if they lose control, the sheeple will wake up from their prosperity-induced stupor and start caring about all the corruption, scandals, socialist shenanigans, etc.

But for now, as long as "the trains run on time"...
