Some Luicho news: NEWS RELEASE TRANSMITTED BY CANADIAN CORPORATE NEWS FOR: PACIFIC RIM MINING CORP. SEC FILE: 029704 TSE SYMBOL: PFG OCTOBER 14, 1999 Pacific Rim Mining Corp. Announces Luicho Mineralization Extended VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--Pacific Rim Mining Corp. is pleased to announce the results of additional surface samples collected by the Company from its Luicho project in southern Peru. These results extend the surface mineralization a further 250 meters to the south. An old exploration tunnel located 250 meters south of the previously sampled Main Target Area (see news release #99-17 dated September 16, 1999) was sampled along the walls in two meter increments. The tunnel is oriented across the main structural trend. This sampling returned an average of 10.03 g/t gold and 147.5 g/t silver over 34 meters (true width of 27 meters). With this result, the surface mineralized corridor is expanded from its previously outlined length of 1.2 kilometers to 1.45 kilometers, averaging 250 meters in width. This corridor remains open to the south where the host sandstone unit is down-faulted and covered by 0 to 25 meters of shale and other fine clastic rocks. In addition, continuous rock chip sampling in the southwestern part of the Main Target Area returned 17.25 g/t gold and 26.8 g/t silver over a width of 32 meters. These samples were taken from the surface in two meter increments. Pacific Rim is continuing to expand and fill in the surface sampling pattern over the large area of surface mineralization exposed at the Luicho project, and will release these results periodically over the coming months as they become available. Contractors are currently being screened for the construction of a road into the Luicho property, which should be completed before the end of March, 2000. Exploration at Luicho is being conducted under the direction of Tom Shrake, CEO, and senior geologists David Ernst and Peter Dilles. Pacific Rim is using Bondar-Clegg, an ISO9002-registered analytical laboratory in Vancouver, BC to assay samples from Luicho. On behalf of the board of directors, Thomas C. Shrake, CEO This news release contains forward-looking statements regarding upcoming programs. Actual results may differ materially from those currently anticipated in such statements. -30-
