Online jobsites; prepare for mergers

Next big wave of Internet related mergers? Online job listing services. So says Raging Bull's Matt Ragas. In his latest Cyberstock Investor Report, Ragas argues that the online job site industry is a very big pie -- estimated to hit $1.7 billion in 2003 -- but there are too many people trying to get a bite of the pie. One study says there are currently more than 2,500 job boards on the Internet.

Ragas shakes the tree and four of the biggest publicly traded job sites fall on his plate. He compares TMP Worldwide's (TMPW: news, msgs) Monster.com, the biggest player, with Headhunter.net (HHNT: news, msgs), which he calls the runt of the bunch. Along with CareerBuilder.com (CBDR: news, msgs), which enjoys a nice alliance with Microsoft and a well stocked war chest.
