I agree with your negative assessment of the Superstar article's prescription for us; I think shrewd trading has a lot more to offer than mutual funds and long-term holds in the MATs and ANFs of the world. What interested me about the article was the discussion of specific psychological characteristics: severe bouts of risk aversion, impulsive investing, etc. Some of this rang true for me, personally, and seems to mirror the experiences others shared on the thread during recent discussions of trading psychology. I don't have any inclination to plow my trading account into mutual funds or long-term holds, but I do appreciate it when "authorities" acknowledge how psychologically taxing it can be to trade and make some attempt (however flawed) to come to grips with it.
