Yes, I agree that Intel buying DSP might be good for LSI's CDMA. Yes, Intel is a tough competitor (especially of their top notch processing, but at this point with problems in ramping 0.18um CPUs, I don't see them willing to put much 0.18um capacity behind the CDMA chips), but as much as a lot of phone makers don't want to give all the business to Qcom at inflated prices, they don't really like to give their money to Intel either. Intel is not known to have much relations with its customers.

At the very least, this should draw attention to LSI's efforts if the 3 largest suppliers are Qcom, Intel and LSI.

And yes, I think we can be sure that Qcom will pull the plug on DSP's liscense.

Short terms, who knows unless you can read the economic indicators. Long and medium term, so far I don't think I've seen much changes in the fundamentals.

I was referring to Intel standardizing its network offering. Wilf is not too far from retirement, and quite frankly, I think that he would rather cash out than go through another cycle. Yes, Qualcomm could pull the DSP plug, so it could work out for LSI short term. But the overall picture is that LSI is "In the right markets with the right products at the right time"--so right that the competition will be all the much greater with the big boys piling in.
