Zany is a quality shop - educational toys that today's parents are looking for. Spencers' is junk IMO. Nothing but gag toys, halloween costumes and a few low quality toys. Much lower quality than Kaybee even - which is more like a toy mart than a real toy store.

Paul Allen/Vulcan Ventures owns a position in Zany Brainy. As do I : )

What everyone here appears to ignore is that in the 'edutainment' space, these guys have a strong foothold and presence, espcially with Parents. I'm not a parent, but every parent I mention ZANY to says ,"Oh! I LOVE that place' - and that's about a kids store. Most importantly, I see their website as a "Community site" and then a site to sell stuff - ToysRus and ETOYS can't even THINK of competing here. ZANY is high margin, exclusive toys - that's nice! Given how flush with cash the general populace is, I can see them do nicely in 4Q99.
