Is there a relationship between BRCM and CUBE? Does one own part of another or are they just similar companies?

Paxson Weighs in on Support for COFDM
10/14/99

By Tom Butts

The largest operator of TV stations in the US formally announced its support for a petition filed by Sinclair Broadcasting last Friday requesting the FCC add the COFDM modulation standard for DTV in the US.

Paxson Communications (West Palm Beach, FL), which owns or operates 72 stations in the US, signed the petition, which included signatures from 15 other groups, comprising more than 300 broadcast stations, according to Sinclair. Paxson is also the seventh and newest network in the US, launching in 1998.

Paxson supports adding COFDM to the US ATSC standard for DTV. Sinclair is leading an effort to add the standard to the existing 8-VSB modulation standard because it believes 8-VSB is inadequate for indoor antenna reception, (see Sinclair Files Petition with FCC to Add Modulation Standard for US DTV).

?If permitted to operate using COFDM technology, broadcasters will be able to offer more reliable over-the-air television service to a greater portion of the US television viewers,? says Lowell Paxson, chairman and founder of Paxson. ?Utilizing this standard, we will be able to provide digital services to the public on every Paxson owned and operated station much earlier than we could utlizing the competing standard.?

PAX TV president Dean Goodman added, ?With COFDM, broadcasters can overcome the complex multipath conditions which hamper DTV reception under the 8-VSB standard, and provide a more reliable and robust over-the-air digital television service to viewers using simple antennas. COFDM also allows us to offer consumers a variety of mobile and portable video services.?

<That is the number one alibi of TA proponents. Why? Because it all looks so clear in the rear view mirror.>

No that's call discipline...and following your signal while tossing your emotions out the window,,, a very tough thing to do. Taking every signal would be an accomplishment for any system trader...and likely very profitable.
