Dan, <MSI's distributer replied that Intel had told MSI "if they sell too many Athlon motherboards, they won't get as many intel chipsets" (which are on allocation).>

Pardon me for reacting predictably, but I think that's a rather convenient excuse for MSI. Blame their motherboard troubles on Intel! Surely it can't be MSI's fault for underestimating AMD's ability to produce Athlons, even though AMD did have a history of manufacturing screw-ups.

"Yeah, we knew all along that AMD would be able to supply the Athlons for our motherboards! We would have liked to meet their needs, but big bad Intel came along and blatantly told us not to! Poor us! Where's the DOJ/FTC/UN when we need them?"

Maybe MSI would also like to blame the Taiwan earthquake on an Intel conspiracy to try and disrupt the supply of Athlon motherboards. After all, isn't it odd that AMD is more dependent on Taiwanese motherboards than Intel?

Re: "He had called the MSI distributer asking for the usual ad sheets that they get from MSI to promote their motherboards. MSI's distributer replied that Intel had told MSI "if they sell too many Athlon motherboards, they won't get as many intel chipsets" (which are on allocation)."

Dan, I spoke with the same MSI distributor and he informed me that it was actually a "Grey" from Zeta Reticuli who passed on that threat from Intel. It seems that Intel has a very close relationship with the Greys, dating all the way back to when Robert Noyce was working under William Schockley at Bell labs. The Rosewell crash debris were turned over to American industry and laundered to look like our own inventions. Noyce used the Alien artifacts to construct the first integrated circuit while working at Fairchild. He moved on, founding Intel along with Gordon Moore and the rest is history. The Greys will do whatever is necessary to keep Intel in their fold and on the threshold of new technology. If it means squashing a few insects like AMD, then so be it. Keep your eye on the big picture.....

Dan - Re: "orders from Intel [to MSI] to restrict sales?

Lets see, you say that your VAR says that their Disti says that MSI says that they are worried about the Intel chipset supply. And you conclude that the lack of MSI motherboards is because Intel has ordered MSI not to produce Athlon motherboards.

Does the fact that MSI had to recall unstable Athlon motherboards suggest that maybe MSI is having trouble making the things?
