Re: "I've just about had it with these conspiracy theories, perpetuated by some radical AMD fans."

You're much too kind. These are the paranoid rantings of lunatics.

Re: I have a real tough time believing that Intel would be that dumb...

Intel has one hell of a lot to lose. I think some of the people at the top were horrified and desperate when it became clear that AMD was actually cranking out Athlons at competitive clock speeds. None of them had been spending much time thinking about the computer business for months - too busy making it Intel dot com.

If the threats weren't in writing, they'll be difficult to prove. AMD has to be careful not to present a scenario that implies Intel can stop AMD from selling anything because Intel can pull the plug on parts.

There is no question that some of this has been going on. If it's just a little, it's hard to blame Intel too much - it's just sooo easy when you're that big an influence in the industry. If they've been persistent and ugly about it - well, I hope for their sake that they kept in mind that wiretaps made outside the US are admissible - prison in this country is said to be quite unpleasant.
