ted - Re: Cu vs. Al at .18...<Why?....is it explainable in layman's terms?>

The benefits of Cu at .18 have been over hyped, IMHO. Al plainly still works at .18. Intel successfully patterns Al aspect ratios (height:width ratio of the metal lines) that are very aggressive (tall and skinny) by industry standards. This is probably the biggest factor pertaining to Intel's success with Al at .18.

Intel presented an IEEE paper on .18 early this year that was nicely summarized in I believe a a February edition of Microprocessor Report, if you want to read more about Intel's .18 process.
