Waldemar,

I think Scott has commented on this topic before, but I believe NOVL frowns upon their staff getting actively involved in public discussions about their company or the industry all around them. I also believe that they are generally only allowed to monitor boards like this - or at the very most - provide extremely unbiased bland postings and not identify themselves as representing the company.

(From all my experience on the countless boards I have been on - I can tell you that is not the case for MSFT and its employees. They can basically say almost anything they want. Heck they can even pretend to be someone they are not <snikker>)

Scott could you elaborate on Novell's policy/position on this issue - now that you are not bound by these rules? As if you abided by them in the first place :))

One last point. Scott, I personally am very happy that you have bucked the policy because you have always provided this board with at least some Novell perspective. I know why Novell might be nervous about employees not expressing their opinions, but, I think they should encourage some authorized Novell spokespersons to participate openly in these boards. Great PR, rumour crusher, and valued company information are the results. Thanks Scott for your participation in this board of the years.

Hello waldemar,

> With all the brilliant suggestions for improvement being tested and
> posted does anyone know if Novell staff are reading this thread???

I know for a fact that *lots* of Novell employees, the people who do the real work, read this thread ...

> They should and perhaps even acknowledge that they are??

They probably won't, out of fear for their jobs ... it's really too bad ... the company used a variety of "threat" tactics with me over the years ... I didn't care if they really wanted to threaten to fire me. In a position with Novell where, for the first two years, my specific job was to do customer presentations and public speaking I couldn't understand the difference. Just another public forum ...

Other people were "warned" and worried about implications. They probably won't post here, except sparingly ... maybe private messages ...
