Analysts were expecting both the PPI and the core to rise
because oil and tobacco prices jumped, but no one expected
the extent of inflation at the producer level. The core rate
excluding tobacco climbed 0.3 percent.

The Federal Reserve is certain to discount the
one-time jump in tobacco prices and, to a lesser extent, the
rise in oil prices. But even excluding those special items,
inflation appears to be picking up...........
