Pick this up on YHOO thread

Behind the numbers reveals this important fact:

Almost all of the rise was tobacco related. With out the tobacco and car price increases the Core rate was up just .01%!!!!
GET a grip investors!

Philip Morris Cos., the world's largest tobacco company,
raised U.S. cigarette prices by 18 cents a pack effective Aug.
30. The 11 percent increase was aimed at boosting profit and
paying for rising taxes and legal-settlement payments.

No. 2 cigarette maker R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Holdings Inc.
said it raised its wholesale prices by the same amount. The price
increases marked the sixth in the past 20 months.

Passenger car prices rose 2 percent in September, the
biggest increase since a 3 percent rise in September
1990. Excluding cars and tobacco, the PPI's core rate rose
0.1 percent.
``Car and truck sales were firm during the summer, and
therefore, end-of-model-year discounting may have been
limited in September,' said Michael Moran, chief economist at Daiwa Securities America Inc. in New York, before the report.

Thanks,
